City Council Golf Course Resolution.

Irvine City Council Passes Legally Binding Resolution That Protects the Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course.

At the Irvine City Council meeting on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 the City Councilmembers voted unanimously to adopt a legally binding resolution, Resolution 18-66, which reaffirms the current General Plan and zoning for the Rancho San Joaquin golf course in order to protect the property from redevelopment.
The resolution includes the following declaration:
"The City Council finds and determines that the current General Plan and Zoning Code designations for the Golf Course property accurately and appropriately reflect the values of the community and City Council's vision and intent for the development of that property.  As such, the City Council has no intent to amend the General Plan and/or Zoning Code to allow for a change in allowable uses on or development of the Golf Course property."

How long will this City Council resolution remain in effect?

City Council Resolution 18-66, which affirms the existing General Plan and zoning designation of the RSJ golf course will remain in effect indefinitely.  A City Council resolution can only be removed or invalidated if the Councilmembers vote to rescind the resolution.  But this rarely occurs.  At least since 2015, no Irvine City Council resolution has ever been rescinded.

However, as with any designated open space amenity in Irvine, we as a community must remain vigilant and informed about land use issues in our city.  And we must continue to elect and support city officials who will honor and uphold Irvine's General Plan and designated open spaces.
